Let me start by saying "Thank you!" for reading the book. Writing it was definitely fun, but hearing from people that they read it and enjoyed the story or related to the characters is a true thrill. As an anesthesiologist, most of my patients consider themselves lucky if they don't remember much (or anything) about what I did for them in the operating room. Being an author gives back some of the interpersonal feedback that I miss there.

Ascendiac is actually my second novel, and it took me about 3 months to write. The idea came to me one day, entirely out of the blue, but at the time, I was entangled in the process of trying to publish the first book, so I put this new story line on the back burner. However, being a new author is an arduous task, and the quest for an agent and publisher can be particularly discouraging. Needless to say, after several months of fruitless attempts, I stopped trying.

Some time passed before I sat back down at the keyboard to try writing again, but the story that had been kicking around in my head had grown to maturity, so I figured I'd see if I could make a second book appear on my Mac*. Ascendiac is the result of that effort.

Anyhow, the concept of an ongoing Web-based discussion is really exciting for me. I'll try to keep an eye on discussions that appear here so if there are points that I can clarify or comment on, I can put in my 2 cents. Of course, since it's fiction, there may not be a "right" answer for some questions, which is what makes writing interesting. So long as the story and the characters can mean something to you, then it's exactly what I intended.

Thanks for your interest in my work!

Sincerely,
Daniel Wambold, MD

*The Mac I write on is a 9500/180 MP because I have the yet unequalled Apple Pro keyboard from the "beige box" era. However, all the graphic design work, such as the cover or the page layout, is done on a spiffy 1GHz Titanium Powerbook and Adobe® InDesign®. If you haven't used Mac and OS X, you don't know what you're missing!
